![]() ![]() For much less than the price of some bloated star vehicle on Broadway (which hardly features drama these days anyway), you can see some real Shakespeare here, and enjoy it much more. Season subscriptions are fairly affordable, and come in a variety of packages. This is one of the few that can regularly do both. There are companies out there that know how to produce excellent theater, and companies that simply know how to put on a good show. I really like the company's approach: the professional casts include Equity and non-Equity actors the productions are a nice mix of classical theater and relevant contemporary work and while the theater is affiliated with Drew University, its productions aren't stuffy or pedantic. Like a previous reviewer, I can't say that I have liked every single show I have seen there, but that would be true of any theater company we are certainly sufficiently impressed to keep coming back for more. We have seen three productions so far, and each one has been better than the last. Run do not walk to get tickets to NJ Shakespeare, you won't be disappointed.Īfter seeing and enjoying a number of STNJ productions over the years, my family decided to subscribe this season. Check to see what production is playing before you bring younger children. It is a treat to hear the director/actors talk about their perspectives of the play and you have the opportunity to ask questions. Try to get tickets to the selected Tuesday night "talk back" performances. ![]() It is an intimate theater and you can feel the energy and emotion of the actors/actresses. There really isn't a bad seat in the house. The actors and actresses are well casted and with close proximity to NYC, there is a nice blend of seasoned and starting actors. ![]() Each play is well directed and the sets and costumes are outstanding. Even when a play may not personally match my interest, I find myself still enjoying the acting. Because I am a subscriber, I have seen some plays that I never would have chosen for myself but found myself enjoying. While I am a Shakespeare fan, I enjoy the selection of non Shakespeare plays. They are best known for producing the Great Horror Campout, an overnight camping experience that combines elements of a traditional camping trip with a haunted house. Each season is a mix of Shakespeare and non Shakespeare productions. Ten Thirty One Productions is a company that specializes in producing live events and experiences. I have been a longtime season subscriber to NJ Shakespeare theater and they have yet to disappoint. ![]()
